NEWCASTLE, England(AP) Newcastle and Swansea battled to a rugged 0-0 draw at St. James' Park in the Premier League Saturday.

Newcastle striker Demba Ba came closest to breaking the deadlock late in the first half but the Senegal international's acrobatic effort hit the post.

The home side's dominance repeatedly tested Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm as Newcastle's Fabricio Coloccini and Shola Ameobi also came close but failed to find the breakthrough, leaving the Magpies winless in five games.

Before the game, Newcastle fans paid tribute to former player Gary Speed, who died last month.
