England defender Cahill on verge of Chelsea move

Updated: January 16, 2012, 07:23

LONDON(AP) England defender Gary Cahill is on the verge of joining Chelsea from Premier League rival Bolton.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle says "it is just a matter of the contracts being exchanged between the relevant parties to conclude the deal.''

Coyle added that he expects the transfer to be completed Monday or Tuesday.

The 26-year-old Cahill is likely to line up alongside England captain John Terry in the Blues' central defense.

With Cahill's Bolton contract set to expire at the end of the season, the transfer fee is widely reported to be just 7 million pounds ($10.7 million).

Coyle says he hopes to sign United States defender Tim Ream from Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls. Ream could replace Cahill in Bolton's squad.
