Toronto FC became Major League Soccer's fourteenth team and Canada's first team to compete in the league when it was founded in 2006. This Toronto, Ontario based team plays its home matches in BMO Field.
Toronto FC has been Major League Soccer's most successful franchises, with becoming profitable within the first year and regular sellouts for home games and season ticket holders alike. The club's first win at home against was 3-1 against the Chicago Fire was after a 1-0 road win at the soon-to-be MLS Cup champions Houston Dynamo and erupted the crowd into an elation of support that would prove to be the foundation to the greatest fan base in the league. Despite less than stellar results from the club, the fan base has been one of the best in the league, even acting as a catalyst for support of other young franchise clubs like Seattle Sounders FC. Notable former players include Eddie Buddle, Tyrone Marshall, and Dwayne Rosario.
Although both squads are relatively young, a rivalry has sprung up between the only two Canadian clubs, Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps
FC. The annual battle between former MLS club the Columbus Crew has earned the name "The Trillium Cup". Toronto FC sports a solid red and white kit.
