Gareth Bale may be playing alongside Adebayor soon

As ever, transfer gossip in the football world is as loud as ever, and we here at imagine are here to bring you the most recent news and views that may or may not turn out to be true…

One of the most surprising moves is that Spurs may be on the verge of signing troubled Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor. The striker has made no bones about the fact that he is unhappy playing second fiddle at Eastlands, and Harry Redknapp is looking to boost his strike force anyway. City for their part may be looking to simply recoup some of the massive amount they’ve spent over the past two summers.

With the confirmation from Sir Alex that Edwin Van Der Sar will probably retire in the summer, the search for a replacement has begun, with the Schalke 04 keeper Manuel Neuer the main target. The Germany number 1 was rumoured to be on the way to Bayern Munich, but apparent in-fighting at the German team has lead to the door being opened to Man Utd. Still only 24, United will be hoping that he can provide a long term solution that prevents them from having similar problems to the ones the encountered following Peter Schmeichel’s retirement.

Rumours are abounding that Roy Hodgson may be prepared to splash out the big bucks to bring Darren Bent to Anfield in order to improve the strength of his attack. However, Steve Bruce will be very unenthusiastic about selling given he has only just reached the level where he is happy with the strength of his own strike-force. Because of this, it is likely Liverpool may have to offer up at least £22 million to get their man.

Latest news that won’t surprise anyone from Villa is that Stephen Ireland will be holding crunch talks to see if he’ll be staying at Villa, following his lack of form since transferring in the summer from Man City. Coach Gerard Houllier has already questioned the midfielder’s work ethic, so it’s likely he may go.
